Tending the Earth Beneath Your Feet
There’s a noticeable shift that happens this time of year. The days get a little longer, sun feels warmer, and things begin to move again.
Spring has a natural way of nudging us toward a reset. For most of us, that starts in our homes. We open the windows, clear out clutter, and make space for something new. It feels good, lighter, and more breathable. As I write this I can hear the birds chirping with my own windows open. The breeze softly coming through feels so refreshing.
But that same energy doesn’t have to stop at our physical space.
Spring is also an opportunity to take a look at what we’ve been carrying internally, our thoughts, patterns, and the tension that can build over time. It can be so subtle it's hard to notice it happening.Â
🌱 What Are You Ready to Clear?
We tend to accumulate more than we realize. Stress settles into the body. You know the tight shoulders or jaw, tension in your hips or back. Certain thought patterns can repeat on autopilot. Emotions linger longer than they need to when we don’t have time to process them, especially with the busy hustle of back-to-school, holiday, and new years, it feels like a freight train of time flying by.Â
Then Spring comes in as a natural time to pause and check in. Not necessarily to overhaul everything, but to notice what feels heavy or outdated or just not serving anymore. You might be thinking yeah this sounds great, but where do I even begin.
Here's a simple place to start:
- What has been taking up more mental space than it needs to?
- Where do you feel tension in your body at the end of the day?
- What routines or habits feel like they’ve run their course?
Awareness alone can begin to shift things.
From there, small, intentional changes become possible.
🌿 Moving Out of “Someday”
It’s easy to spend a lot of time thinking about what’s next. I have spent decades dreaming, visioning, moving, and creating "what's next" for my life that sometimes it feels like the here and now is passing me by. Then things get put to the back burner. Things we'll do "when things calm down", what we’ll change "when we have more time, or even how we’ll feel when "life looks a little different". All phrases I've said before and I know I can't be the only one.Â
That future focus can be helpful, but it can also keep us disconnected from what’s happening right now. Spring is a good reminder to come back to the present.
Not everything needs to wait. There are small ways to create change in your current day, your current routine, your current environment.
🌾 Tending What’s Already Working
Instead of focusing only on what needs to be cleared or fixed, it can be just as helpful to look at what’s already working. I had a coach once say that we have accomplishment amnesia and forget what's going well.Â
Turn your focus towards....
- What helps you feel more grounded?
- What parts of your day feel steady or supportive?
- Where do you already have momentum?
Tending to those areas and giving them a little more attention or consistency can often create more lasting change than trying to start from scratch. This way it also already feels a bit like home and like ourselves.Â
A few simple ways to support what’s already working:
- Keep one small routine consistent (even if it’s just a few minutes a day)
- Spend time in environments that help you feel calm or focused
- Follow through on something you already know makes you feel better
🌅 A Practical Spring Reset
A reset doesn’t have to be dramatic. In fact, it can be built through small, repeatable actions.
Here are a few ways to bring that into your day:
- Take a few minutes in the morning to sit quietly before starting your day
- Step outside for fresh air, even briefly (or open a window)
- Choose one area of your home to simplify
- Pay attention to your breath when you feel overwhelmed
- Create a small “end of day” routine to signal closure (I love my Hatch alarm and reading)
None of these take much time, but they help create a sense of space—mentally and physically.
🌿 Start Where You Are
Spring doesn’t require you to change everything at once. It’s more about paying attention and making small adjustments over time. I can get stuck on wanting the FULL plan before starting or "perfect" conditions, but you can really start with what’s already in front of you. This post is really a reminder for myself as well ;)
Take one breath.
Clear one small space.
Shift one habit.
That’s enough to begin, and often, that’s all it takes to create momentum.
Sending you so much love this spring,Â
Jessica
