Molly’s Story
On July 30th, 2015, our family was changed forever. My mother-in-law was diagnosed with stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer and it was shocking. When this news was delivered, we felt lost. At the time, it seemed as if there was a lack of resources provided to our family. Like so many others, Molly fought valiantly only to lose her battle just 5 weeks later.
This is the common theme with Pancreatic Cancer. Rarely is it detected early and the symptoms tend to be a combination of everyday issues. As of today, only 10% of those diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer will survive to 5 years, with many of those passing within weeks or months, like Molly. Sadly, this is the lowest survival rate out of any of the major cancers.
After the chaos and healing began and we found the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network or PanCan. They have provided hope, care, and compassion for those who struggle with pancreatic cancer and their family members. Molly’s son, Matt, joined the Minnesota Affiliate and helps people in their fight with Pancreatic cancer to provide information, support, and direction.
